Engagement Shoot

A couple of weeks ago, Garth and I decided to do an engagement shoot with Daniel Chafer Photography. We wanted photos together to mark the beginning of a lifelong journey together. We (surprisingly, I know!) have hardly any photos together and wanted a reminder of the excitement at this special time in our lives.

It might sound cliche, but I think I knew Garth was the one the day I met him at the hospital. I hadn’t felt this excited about anything or anyone for a long time. He was a clear gentlemen- he was strong and masculine but soft and caring. Not only was he amazing but he loved me for me, no make-up, messy hair, wearing scrubs and talking midwifery. He believed in me, trusted me, protected me and facilitated personal growth. The more I found out about him, his life and his personality, the more I wanted to know, the more I wanted to surround myself with him and the more I fell in love.

Adventurous, kind, intelligent, handsome, humble, thoughtful, balanced and ever so caring!

We had travelled the world together, spending every minute by each other’s side while we explored new territory and navigated living out of a suitcase. We had then moved in together and shortly after we welcomed our greatest achievement, Evaliah Grace. We knew we were going to spend our lives together but as far as knowing when and how he’d pop the question, I was completely clueless.

Well… let me tell you, it was magical, intimate and TOTALLY sweet. It was Garth’s idea for a mini mid-week getaway to Byron Bay, just the three of us. We stayed at a gorgeous little bed and breakfast and just enjoyed each others company. It was the most stunning morning at the Farm and we were walking around the sunflower fields when Garth said we were running late for a “surprise lunch” and better get going. As we headed south on the motorway towards the airport, the suspense was absolutely killing me- I love surprises!

Then there it was… our private helicopter waiting to take us on a secret adventure. Was he going to propose? it definitely had crossed my mind at this point but I had decided to just block it all out and just cherish every second together. We hovered over the pristine Northern New South Whales beaches, spotting sharks and marine life along the way whilst I breastfed Evaliah. Our pilot announced that we had reached our destination as we descended to land on a secluded beachfront farm.

As soon as the chopper stopped, the only sound I could hear was the waves hitting the shore on the private beach. This beautiful and serene scene was about to become one of the most meaningful moments of our lives, etched in our memories forever. The sun was shining over the dam which was scattered with lush shady trees, under one of which was our very own picnic. Garth had pre-organised my favourite fine champagne chilled in a bucket, a delious display of strawberries and decadent desserts. No detail was unthought of or neglected. It was romantic, relaxed and intimate. The view was picturesque, truly breathtaking and having Evaliah with us to share in the experience was icing on the cake.

I layed Evaliah under the tree asleep and we looked at each other and smiled, without words we knew we both felt so proud of her- so thankful for her and for each other. The next thing I knew, he was on one knee giving me an overview of our relationship and spilling his heart for hopes of the future… that I would be his lifelong travel companion. Emotion swept right through my body,  I didn’t have any words at first and then all that came out was repeatedly “Oh. My. God”. He prompted, “So, is that a yes?”. Of course it was, it was always going to be YES!

In that moment I completely forgot about the ring, the engagement itself and the wedding but thought only of the overwhelming love we share. I can’t remember all of the words he said, but I will always remember how he made me feel in that moment. All I wanted to do was explode into his arms and celebrate this moment, experiencing pure, ecstatic joy rush through my body.

Then, I saw the ring… It absolutely took my breathe away,  it was more than I ever could of imagined. It was so perfect because he had personally designed and chosen it especially for me. I couldn’t take my eyes off it and it was never, EVER, coming off!

I feel a new sense of strength in our relationship, a security that I never thought I needed and butterflies in my stomach all over again. The novelty hasn’t worn off, I still get excited and giddy every time I mention my “fiancé” and I am still foverer gazing at my left hand- dreaming of the day I become your wife
